What It Means Being an HPH Athlete
One day, when these young players continue their baseball career and chase their dreams, some may stay home while others go off the island. Where ever their dream lead them, they will always know where they came from. No matter how big their name becomes, I know they will be proud to represent the islands of Hawaii. Then someday, they will take all the lessons they learned and share it with the community here because in baseball, you can't forget to touch home.
Inspiration
In 2023, it was the end of his baseball career at Austin Peay State University when his coach, Heath Holiday, told him, "you have a passion for the game that you don't see very often." Heath made him realize that he should coach as a way to pass along his knowledge and give back to his community. The type of coach that Matt wants to be is a coach that kids can trust, relate to, and be themselves. His lessons are about being challenged and improving all while having fun.
